Likok Pulo Dance
Likok Pulo dance is a traditional dance from Aceh, Indonesia. "Likok" means the movement of dance, while "Pulo" means island. Pulo here refers to a small island on the northern tip of Sumatra island, also called Breuh Island or Rice Island.
This dance was born about 1849, was created by a scholar from the old Arab drifting at sea and stranded in Pulo Aceh. This dance was held after the rice planting or after harvest, usually held in the evening performances even if the contested dance can run all night until morning. The dance is played by sitting cross-legged position, rows, or shoulder to shoulder.
